This article is for you if:
- You are using QuickBooks Online (not Desktop — here are Desktop instructions).
- You need to connect QuickBooks Online to Garde for exporting your data.
- You have access to the Admin login credentials for your QuickBooks company file.
QuickBooks Plan Requirements
- Simple Start does NOT support importing Bills (vendor invoices). You’ll need Essentials, Plus, or Advanced to export from Garde.
- Essentials does not support Classes or Locations. If you need those features, upgrade to Plus or Advanced.
Instructions
1. Navigate to Connected Data
Log in to Garde and go to Settings > Connected Data. Find the Intuit QuickBooks entry and click Manage.2. Connect your location
Click the Connect to QuickBooks button next to the location you want to connect.Note: If you don’t see the Connect button, try clearing your browser cache or switching to a different browser (e.g., if you’re in Chrome, try Edge or Firefox).
3. Log in to QuickBooks
A new tab will open where you’ll need to log in to QuickBooks Online using your Admin credentials.4. Select your company file
If you have more than one company file, select the one for the location you’re setting up.5. Authorize the connection
Click Authorize to allow data to be shared between Garde and QuickBooks. Once authorized, you’ll be redirected back to Garde with a success confirmation.Adjusting Your Settings
After connecting, you can configure your sync settings in Garde under Settings > Connected Data. We default to manual sync, and recommend starting this way until you’re comfortable with the data flow. Learn more about sync options in Overview: Exporting to Your Accounting System.Available settings:
- Sync mode — Manual (you control when data exports) or automatic.
- Classes — If your QuickBooks plan supports Classes, you can assign one per transaction type per location.
- Locations — Map Garde units to QuickBooks Locations (requires Plus or Advanced).
- Attach photos — Attach invoice images when sending to QuickBooks. Most users prefer this on.
- Fully-qualified account names — Shows all levels of categories from your GL. Helpful during initial setup.
Don’t forget to click Save!
