Video Walkthrough

Using Shared Device Mode

Once enabled, every time the Garde app opens on that tablet:
  • The app launches straight into Shared Device Mode
  • Staff enter the 4-digit PIN to access the features they need

What Team Members Can Do

  • View recipes (including videos, ingredients, and methods)
  • Upload invoices
  • Take inventory
  • Record waste
Note: Any actions taken on the shared device (like uploading an invoice or submitting an inventory count) will show the device name as the user on audit trails. For example, if the device is named “FOH Tablet,” that’s what will appear in the relevant fields.

Language Options

Staff can select their preferred language on the login screen. Currently available in:
  • English, Spanish, Chinese
To switch languages, log out and choose a new language before logging back in.

Step 1 — Set Up the Shared Device (Web App)

You’ll need Garde Admin or Restaurant Admin permissions for this step.
  1. Log into Garde on your computer.
  2. Go to Setup → Shared Devices.
  3. If you have multiple locations, you can filter your view to a specific location or see all locations.
  4. Click Add Device.
  1. Give the tablet a nickname (e.g., Bar Tablet, Kitchen Tablet).
  2. Select the store the device belongs to.
  3. Create a 4-digit PIN your team will use to unlock the tablet.
  1. Click Generate QR Code. A unique QR code will appear — keep this page open because you’ll need to scan it from the tablet.

Step 2 — Register the Tablet (Mobile App)

Now grab the tablet:
  1. Open the Garde mobile app (available on the Apple App Store and Google Play).
  2. Log in with your regular Garde username and password.
  3. Tap MoreRegister Shared Device.
  4. Tap Get Started to open the camera.
  1. Scan the QR code displayed on your computer.
Once scanned, the tablet switches immediately into Shared Device Mode. Your team can start using it right away with the 4-digit PIN you created in Step 1.

Locking Down the Tablet for Kitchen or Bar Use

If this tablet is going to live in the kitchen or behind the bar, take a few minutes to lock down the device settings so staff can’t accidentally (or intentionally) change things:
  • Enable Guided Access (iOS) or Pin the app (Android) to prevent users from leaving the Garde app.
  • Disable notifications from other apps so they don’t pop up over Garde.
  • Turn off the ability to install or delete apps via parental controls or device management settings.
  • Set a strong device passcode that only managers know, separate from the Garde PIN.
  • If your organization uses mobile device management (MDM), consider enrolling the tablet for remote control and monitoring.

Managing or Removing a Shared Device

If the tablet is lost, replaced, or no longer needs shared access:
  1. In Garde, go to Setup → Shared Devices in the web app.
  2. Find the device in your list (e.g., Bar Tablet).
  3. Click Remove Device.
After removal:
  • The PIN will stop working and the tablet will exit Shared Device Mode
  • The app will return to normal login behavior, requiring a username and password
