Sometimes the way you buy something isn’t the way you want to count it. For example, you buy chicken by the case but count it by the pound during inventory. Or you purchase beer by the case but want to track it by the can. Changing the count-by unit of measure lets you align your inventory counts with how your team actually works in the kitchen or behind the bar.
Heads up: Changing the count-by unit will impact historical reporting for that product. Expect some inventory discrepancies until you’ve completed two full inventory counts after the change. After that, everything normalizes.
Step 1: Find the product
You can get to the product editing page two ways:
Option A — From View All Products:
Go to Products > View All Products in the left navigation.
Use the search bar to find the product, click on it, then click Edit Product.
Option B — From New Vendor Item Review:
Go to Product > New Vendor Item Review and click the blue hyperlinked Product name.
Step 2: Change the count-by unit
On the Edit Product page, scroll down to the section labeled “How do you want to count this product?”
Click the dropdown and select the unit of measure you want to count by.
Step 3: Enter the conversion
Once you pick a new unit, Garde needs to know how the new count-by unit relates to the vendor item packaging on your invoices.
Here’s a practical example: Say you have a beer that’s invoiced by the case (24 x 12oz cans), and you change the count-by from “case” to “can.” The system will ask “How Many Cans?” — and you’d enter 24.
If there are multiple Vendor Items linked to this Product, you’ll need to enter a conversion for each one (since different vendors may have different pack sizes).
Step 4: Save
Click Save and you’re done. Your inventory count sheets and reports will now reflect the new unit of measure.
